The Human Rights Unit is a pro bono group at BPP Law School. We work in partnership with charities and NGOs to promote human rights worldwide.
Our recent projects include:
1. Legal research for Global Witness. HRU Manchester are researching the extent to which anti-money laundering legislation is enforced on banks and other financial institutions. More information to follow.
2. HRU Manchester prepared a report entitled ‘Transparency of Investment Arbitration Proceedings’ for Global Witness. Global Witness is campaigning for greater transparency and third party access to arbitration proceedings between foreign investors and states. Global Witness argue that the private nature of arbitration is unsuitable for the resolution of disputes to which a government is party and the matter is one which is in the public interest. The Human Rights Unit analysed the current rules governing investment arbitration and the movement towards greater transparency and third party access rights. The report can be found here.
